The Treasury

The Treasury contains a fine collection of ecclesiastical silver from Churches in the Diocese of Lichfield. These were so valuable that for many years the items were locked away unseen in vaults. They date from 14th to the 19th century. Included are some of St Mary’s own plate, chalices and flagons. Also displayed is civic regalia and plate including the sword of state given to the City in 1686. One of the City maces is also on display. There are also domestic items of silver, items from the Staffordshire Regiment as well as other loans. Do not miss the Blithfield Sallet (a close-fitting medieval helmet), of which few original ones remain.
